Overview

The Luna ERM-202 is a rotating-polarizer polarization extinction ratio (PER) meter. It is available in single channel and dual channel versions. The single-channel version can later be upgraded to dual-channel.

The instrument combines low noise circuitry with a high resolution stepper motor to achieve a PER dynamic range of 50 dB and an angle resolution of 0.06°. It measures PER, output power and axis angle of the device under test simultaneously.

The dual channel version also measures the power ratio of a device with two polarization maintaining (PM) outputs, such as a Y-branch fiber gyro IOC, PM coupler (PMC) or polarization beam splitter (PBS). It can also evaluate the output degree of polarization of depolarizers. An analog electrical PER output is provided for each channel.

PER, axis angle, power ratios and optical power are measured automatically and shown on an OLED graphic display. The instrument has four measurement speeds from 0.1 to 1 second per cycle: the fast speeds are used for live alignment and the slow speeds for accuracy. Measurement data can be stored and recalled for comparison.
