Overview

The Anritsu Network Master Pro MT1040A is a handheld, B5-size portable instrument for evaluating the communications quality of networks operating at speeds between 10 Mbps and 400 Gbps. One modular platform covers Ethernet from 10M to 400G, OTN from OTU1 to OTU4, SDH/SONET, mobile back/fronthaul (eCPRI/RoE, CPRI/OBSAI) and Fibre Channel from 1GFC to 16GFC.

400G Ethernet uses PAM4 modulation and Forward Error Correction (FEC). The MT1040A includes a built-in 400G Ethernet FEC analysis function that supports both visual monitoring and quantitative measurement of FEC symbol errors, making it suitable for quality evaluation of QSFP-DD and OSFP optical modules and devices as well as network performance evaluation. It also supports 100ZR, 400ZR, OpenZR+ and OpenROADM pluggable coherent transceivers.

Modular configuration

Test functions are provided by plug-in measurement modules: the 400G (QSFP-DD) Multirate Module MU104014B, the 400G (OSFP) Multirate Module MU104015A and the 100G Multirate Module MU104011A, among others. With the MT1040A-020 option, two measurement modules can be installed for 400 GbE dual-port or 100 GbE 4-port testing. Protocol options can be added to each module as needed, and modules can be retrofitted in the field. OTDR modules add optical fiber continuity and loss testing with the Fiber Visualizer graphical summary.

Operation and connectivity

The instrument uses a 9-inch color touch screen and a Linux-based test environment. It runs on AC power or two replaceable Li-ion batteries, with about 1 hour of 400G testing on battery power. WLAN, Bluetooth and LAN connectivity allow remote control via VNC, and the SEEK (Scenario Edit Environment Kit) function runs pre-built test scenarios that automate setup, execution, pass/fail evaluation and report creation.
