Overview
The Anritsu 5L83 is the multimode member of the CMA5 series of handheld optical light sources. It provides a stable laser diode (LD) source at 850 nm and 1300 nm for point-to-point attenuation measurements on multimode fiber links, and is used in fiber optic cable installation and maintenance work, including datacom testing.
The unit has a compact, rugged design that weighs 250 g and is built for field conditions. It runs on a single 9 V alkaline battery for up to 16 hours, and an optional AC adapter is available. The connector adapter on the output port can be replaced by the user, with FC, SC and ST types available.
For fiber identification, the source can output CW light or light modulated at 270 Hz, 1 kHz or 2 kHz. It is designed to be used with the CMA5 series optical power meters (5P100 and 5P100C) for loss measurements. The single-mode counterpart in the series is the 5L35 (1310/1550 nm).
